Robert Genn just sent out this thing on titles, so I sent him this. He probably won’t publish it so, here’s a system i like to use in titling my art. it’s an a la carte title maker. Sorta like ordering your titles from a vietnamese restaurant. You got your modifiers, nouns and adjectives to choose from. What’s that? you want a side of prepositions with that? that’ll be $1 extra, on thursdays you can mix and match all you like:
Prepositions modifiers noun
Along the busy forest
By my buddha
From the dimming carousel pony
In a partially broken Chico’s diner
On the shimmering, resplendent hills Our lady of a big bowl of sheep
please enjoy my painting which I call ” From the dimming carousel pony forest ”
That’s really funny.
thanks. I’m here all week.
Another fill-in-the-blank exercise would be to create a self-proclaimed statement of professional reputation for yourself, like “Painter of Light” with “Painter of _____ .” Endless choices could include words like; Dark, Too much light, Paintings, Canvases, Carousel Ponies, Little Value, Impossible Light, Too Small Paintings, Perspective from More than One Eye Level, etc.
Excellent! I like it. There was a time when I was looking for a way to parody the “painter of light” slogan best I came up with was “the painter of blight” but some of yours could work… maybe the “painter of light and dark” or the “painter of little value” or maybe going with your perspective suggestion..
Painter of atmospheric perspective and multiple points of view with the left hand in the southeast”
…Or maybe just keep the “Painter of Light,” term and add a word or two in hopes that unsophisticated buying customers won’t notice that it’s not that other artist with the galleries all over the country. This could be titles like: “Painter of Light Bulbs,” “Painter of Light Pick-up Trucks,” “Painter of Light Fixtures,” “Painter of Light Weight Contenders,” etc.
Those are all good. “Painter of light weight contenders” Ha!
Now that’s a niche. Though there is a guy who paints boxers out there already. Steve Huston. He’s damn good too. He’s a contender.
Hi Larry –
Someone stole your idea – only they are using it to create names for people instead of paintings. They did create a handy easy to use computerized name generator tho.
