First off, my website got hacked by a Japanese anime porn site. Wierd. Don’t know if anyone saw anything but rest assured I had nothing to do with that. I noticed a page not working on my website and some wierd stuff happening on the main page so when I sent my updates to my web guy, I mentioned this and he told me the great news…. so keep an eye on your site if it starts acting up or if there are naked people doing strange things you may want to have a professional check it out. He reloaded the site and now all is fine. Still waiting on the updates.
Anyway, it’s good to do a series. I have several going at once along with the commissions, painting for galleries and various other things. A series allows one to really explore a topic. I was invited to join a great gallery over in New Smyrna called Arts on Douglas. Really nice looking space situated in a small Atlantic coast town with great support from the local community. I had already started a surf series for a previous show and had done a few wave paintings for my own personal pleasure. WhenI returned from easton I had two days to come up with a show piece to add to the other smaller works so I banged out this 30×30 on a cradled art box… it’s like a gallery wrap but it’s a wood box. I love them. (Studio Picture Frame in Winter Park, (407) 599-3726) Adds a nice contemporary feel to the presentation. This series will allow me to explore more abstratct notions of compostion and paint without leaving the realm of realism. The short time to produce kept me loose which I think adds to the quality of the work. It’s pretty loosely painted but as a friend said it reads well from a distance. The reference from this one photo will provide me with another 3 or 4 paintings.. got a big one planned at 5’x6′. Obviously one can’t really get a painting of a wave with this level of accuracy by painting from life. I took one of my surf pics from Laguna and cropped into it until I found a nice composition. I’m looking forward to the next set of waves.
